In the sensational book Roadblock to Peace. How the UN Perpetuates the Arab-Israeli Conflict: UNRWA’s Policies Reconsidered, David Bedein explains how UNWRA raises around 1 billion US dollars. We know that during the last few years, two schools of UNWRA in Gaza were used to hide rockets and two Israeli soldiers died as a consequence of a bomb set under a UNWRA clinic (2014). Today, 99% of the 30,000 workers of UNRWA are Palestinians, the immense majority define themselves as “refugees”. School books of the UNRWA (from first grade to high school), both in the West Bank (approved by the PA) and in Gaza (approved by Hamas) are loaded with demonizations about Jews, exaltations in texts and poetry on the myth of the “right to return”, and of course, they glorify the path of Jihad and martyrdom. Since 2000, the workers of UNRWA have participated in or assisted terrorist actions. For example, in 2002, Nidal Abad Al-Fatal Abdala, leader of Hamas in Kalkilya, served as a UNRWA ambulance driver and was arrested. That same year, Nahd Rashid Ahmad Atallah, a high officer of UNRWA in Gaza, who assigned funds to refugees, was arrested and admitted that during the previous decade, he handed part of those resources to family members of the wanted terrorists. Awad Al-Qiq, who worked as Principal and science teacher of a UNRWA school in Gaza, works at night as a terrorist building rockets for the Islamic Jihad as commander of their “engineering unit”. In Gaza, there are profound links between Hamas and the UNRWA schools. They organize Hamas ceremonies and competitions in the UNRWA schools; teachers designated by Hamas and UNRWA do not bother to check if the people that work for them are linked to terrorist organizations.
