According to the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees (1951), a refugee is “a person who is outside his or her country of nationality or habitual residence; has a well-founded fear of being persecuted because of his or her race, religion, nationality, etc.; this person is unable or unwilling to avail himself of the protection of his country, or to return there, for fear of persecution” (he does not accept or is not granted a nationality). This is the definition by UNHCR. In this case, Palestinian refugees were the ones who fled the wars of 1948-1967, are still alive and were not granted citizenship from other countries. However, the 1951 Refugee Convention excludes the Palestinian refugees of 1948, “protected” and “assisted” by TWO pre-existing UN Special Commissions (UNCCP, for protection and conflict resolution, and UNRWA, for assistance and employment). According to the surreal UNRWA, a person that lived in the British Mandate between Jun/1/1946 and May/15/1948 is considered a refugee. How is this brief period understood? An enormous amount of Arabs arrived in Israel looking for jobs offered by the British and the Zionists. If they would have written the date as 1918, they would have “damaged the business” because there were 600,000 Arabs and not 1,800,000 like in 1948. Surprisingly, and Arab is considered as a “refugee” if moved a few kilometers from his village to another one under Arab control. This is the most unusual definition of “refugee” in history. At present, according to hereditary and SPECIAL parameters of UNRWA, they count over “four million Palestinian refugees” (others affirm 9 million), making them the largest population of refugees in the world. One out of every three refugees is “Palestinian” and about 60% of all Palestinians have an eternal refugee condition. What bad luck do all the millions of refugees of the world have, since they can’t enjoy this DE LUXE REFUGEE status!
