The Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, has repeated emphatically that he will not support the “Deal of the Century”, presented by Donald Trump, assuring that the “conspiration” that began with the Balfour Declaration (1917) is not over yet. Trump has placed the Palestinian Authorities among his enemies, he recognized Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel and moved the US embassy there. In September 2018, the US government announced the closing of the office of the PLO in Washington, accusing it of not moving forward in “direct and significant negotiations” with Israel. This is how Trump reacted to the fact that Palestinians had decided to address the International Criminal Court (The Hague), to accuse Israel of alleged violations. Previously, the US had announced that it would cut all funding to the UN Palestinian Refugee Agency (UNRWA). Moreover, the US requested to drastically decrease the number of people considered as Palestinian refugees, adapting it to universal parameters. The real refugee number could be around 20,000-50,000 people. At the beginning of 2018, the US delivered only 65 of the 360 million dollars (of a total of 1.1 billion). This was the last grant by Trump. Previously, the State Department announced another cut to the aid to Palestinians, by canceling a 200 million dollar donation destined to finance humanitarian aid programs in Gaza and the West Bank. Meanwhile, Abbas was filmed yelling (about Trump) “may his house burn!”, he rejected the North American mediator and requested different mediators other than the US alone, (they preferred the Quartet established in Madrid 20002: UN, US, EU and Russia). Without a doubt, the Palestinians are reading Trump wrongly.
